Motorhead Premium Dark Rum, 40%

It’s dark,

it’s sweet,

it’s heavy

& it’s pretty darned tasty!

Celebrity spirits generally get a bad rap – mainly from those on the inside – but they generate increased sales – usually from the outside – & attract a new layer of drinkers for the producers involved.

The producer of this Dominican Republican rum isn’t stated – but it has benefited from an 8 year solera style ageing process.

I welcome celebrity spirits.

Especially one as tasty as this dark rum bearing the Motorhead motif.

There’s woodiness, oak, sweet molasses, & a lovely flair of tannic spice on the rear.

It satisfies my rum tendencies – as well as my heavy metal cravings.

Rock on!

I purchased my Motorhead Rum via Brands For Fans here.

Carlos I, Solera Gran Reserva, Brandy de Jerez, 40%

My wife brought me back this miniature from Spain a few years ago.

Never got round to tasting it – until now.

Plummy sweet nose with a solid earthy feel.

Sweet & easy palate with a slight nuttiness.

Lovely turn of earthy spice on the rear.

Beats any brandy I’ve had before!

One to sip & savour.

Glenfiddich Reserve Cask & Select Cask, Travel Retail, Single Malt, 40%

I picked up these a while ago.

Travel retail NAS – non aged statement – offerings seem to be the ‘thing’ right now.

Being a category leader – I thought I’d give them a go.

Bad decision.

This is soft, sweet easy going malt for the masses.

Any sparkle of life & vitality has been sucked out by added caramel & chill filtration.

The Reserve Cask did have a prickly spice on the finish to give it a lift – but the Select Cask was just sweet, honeyed, biscuity malt.

Fine if you like that sort of thing – but no – they did nothing for me.
