JD Gross Bourbon Vanilla White Chocolate

No actual Bourbon has been harmed in the manufacture of this lovely creamy chocolate.

Rather the ingredients listed are Ground Bourbon Vanilla Pods & Bourbon Vanilla Extract.

Bourbon Vanilla is named after the geographical area the vanilla hailed from – Íle Bourbon, or Réunion & later Madagascar in the Indian Ocean – and has nothing to do with Bourbon Whiskey.

And whilst it’s true alcohol is used to soak the vanilla pods to make Bourbon Vanilla Extract – the type of alcohol is usually a high strength PGA – Pure Grain Alcohol – in commercial operations.

So no luck there either.

Does make for a rich & very indulgent chocolate though!

Yum yum!

One innovative idea I came across in my local Lidl was Tipperary Irish Whiskey Artisan Ice Cream.

How could I resist?

A serving was prepared – neat to begin with – although extra toppings of strawberries, cream & even a dash of single malt were later enjoyed!

The ice cream was exceptionally smooth, creamy & lucious.

A hint of maltiness came through the rich vanilla base.

Made in Tipperary using whiskey sourced from Kilbeggan Distillery – this ice cream has no artificial additives or colouring.

A highly entertaining dessert that can be enjoyed in numerable ways.

Delicious!

Bell’s 21 Year Old Royal Reserve, Blend, 40%

I picked up this unusual bottle of Bell’s in a job lot auction win of miniatures.

Having tasted a few that had clearly ‘turned‘, I’d resisted opening this one as the fill level seemed low – a sure sign things were not good inside.

Only when the magnifying glass picked out 3cl on the rather sparse label – total 15 words – did I get my hopes up.

Could I be in for a treat?

Sadly – my nose said not!

Like opening a long closed cupboard – an intense rank foostiness assaulted me.

Undeterred – I ploughed on.

The palate started off dull – but a richness of depth, warming vanilla, oaky woodiness & a solid alcoholic kick greeted me.

Oh to have enjoyed this one in it’s prime!

Even on the turn there’s an attractiveness to the flavours within this Bell’s.

A joyous prickly heat danced off the palate on the satisfyingly long finish.

This must have been a belter in it’s day!

Hells Bells!
